This is a little section of a column at a museum I visited in Sarasota. I "wasted" a lot of time staring at all the lines & cracks. I wonder why I get more fascinated with the details than whole images.

I also took a picture of a big moldy urn at the same museum. Or rather, a section of it. Heh. I think I will post that on my other blog.

Because it's the details that make it interesting. They help to remind us that things that may seem similar at first blush actually have many, many differences. Your mind wanders and wonders at what caused the cracks, nicks, chips, or whatever little intricacy caught your eye. There's a world of possibilities just in this little image. I'm not surprised that the whole column held your attention. I don't blame you one bit.

Yes, you are so right. I am glad you wrote that. Makes me feel a bit better about having "wasted" so much time in the courtyard outside the museum rather than inside where the paintings were. Thanks for your comment!
